Novel Ways to See New York

New York is a special place, close to the hearts of many who have been there. It’s also enormous and very hard to get around to see everything in a typical fortnight’s break. There are ways and means of seeing a lot of highlights at a time, though, if you are prepared to do things a bit differently. Here are some ideas for how you might want to take in some of New York’s most famous sights.
1. Manhattan’s Walking Tour
This can be custom-made just for you, to take in the parts of the city that you most want to see, or you can choose from a menu of standard tours. You may want to choose famous landmarks, or other features of New York life like its food or local customs. All tours are led by local New Yorkers who know the city like the back of their hands.
2. Statue Cruises
You can take a cruise from New York or from New Jersey along the New York Harbour and waterways. The most popular cruise destination is one that allows you to see the Statue of Liberty, but others are available that will take you to see the Brooklyn Bridge or Governors’ Island. You can sail as part of a group, or book a private cruise for any number of guests – ideal for celebrating a wedding perhaps.
3. Haunted Walks
Explore the darker side of the city through the streets of Greenwich Village and Hell’s Kitchen as you visit allegedly haunted dwellings and sites of gruesome history.
4. Bike the Big Apple
As it sounds, really. Take a biking tour of the city, led by locals, covering up to fifteen miles over the course of the day (so not for the casual cycler). Arguably the best way to see the most of the city in the shortest time.

5. Helicopter Rides

Take a helicopter ride wherever you like to see the city from above. Most people choose to see the Statue of Liberty, Central Park and the Empire State Building, but you can also see Ground Zero from above.

If you don’t get to see everything you wanted to after all that … well, you’d better go back again!
